/ Fault Conditions and Symptoms
Under-Voltage Shutdown Verifypowersupplyvoltagesforminimumconditionsper
specifications.Alsonotethatthedrivewillpullthepowersupplyvoltagedownifthepower
supplycannotprovidetherequiredcurrentforthedrive.Thiscouldoccurwhenhighcurrent
isdemandedandthepowersupplyispulledbelowtheminimumoperatingvoltagerequired
bythedrive.
Short Circuit Fault
1. Checkeachmotorleadforshortswithrespecttomotorhousingandpowerground.Ifthe
motorisshorteditwillnotrotatefreelywhennopowerisappliedwhileitisuncoupled
fromtheload.
2. Disconnectthemotorleadstoseeifthedrivewillenablewithoutthemotorconnected.
3. Measuremotorarmatureresistancebetweenmotorleadswiththedrivedisconnected.
Invalid Hall Sensor State (Brushless Drives only) Seethe“CommutationSequence”
tab lein“HallSensors”onpage8forvalidcommutationstates.Ifthedriveisdisabledcheckthe
following:
1. Makesurethatthe60or120degreephasingjumper(JE2)isinthecorrectsettingper
motordatasheets.Whendrivingasinglephase(brushedtype)motorwithathreephase
(brushless)driveusethe60‐degreephasesetting(see“UsingaSinglePhaseMotorwitha
ThreePhaseDrive”onpage9formoreinformationonthisparticularconfiguration).
2. CheckthevoltagelevelsforalltheHallsensorinputs.
3. MakesureallHallSensorlinesareconnectedproperly.
Inhibit Input Checkinhibitinputforcorrectpolarity(thatis,pull‐to‐groundtoinhibitorpull‐to‐
groundtoenable).InhibitconfigurationdependsonJE1onthePCB.Also,keepinmindthat
noiseontheinhibitlinecouldbeacauseforafalseinhibitsignalbeinggiventothedrive.
Power-On Reset Alldriveshaveapower‐onresetfunctiontoensurethatallcircuitryonthe
boardisfunctionalpriortoenablingthedrive.Theboardwillonlybedisabledmomentarily,
andwillquicklyenableuponpowerup.
Overload
Verifythattheminimuminductancerequirementismet.Iftheinductanceistoolowitcould
appearlikeashortcircuittothedriveandthusitmightcausetheshortcircuitfaulttotrip.
Excessiveheatingofthedriveandmotorisalsocharacteristicoftheminimuminductance
requirementnotbeingmet.Seedrivedatasheetsforminimuminductancerequirements.
Over-Current
Alldrivesincorporatea“fold‐back”circuitforprotectionagainstover‐current.This“fold‐back”
circuitusesanapproximate“I

t”algorithmtoprotectthedrive.Alldrivescanrunatpeak
currentforamaximumof1second(eachdirection).Currentsbelowthispeakcurrentbut
abovethecontinuouscurrentcanbesustainedduringatimeperiodofapproximately(peak
current/current)2seconds.Ifsuchacurrentiscommandedforalongertimeperiod,thedrive
willautomaticallyfoldbackatanapproximaterateof"I
