To Use the Gate and External Arm
Example Procedure for Gate and External Arm
For demonstration purposes, you want to set up the Counter so that it uses an external
arm to start a measurement. You want to make a Frequency measurement on a signal
applied to channel 1. Also, you want to perform the measurement during an interval
of 5 milliseconds as shown in the following figure.
NOTE As shown in the following figure, the Counter is always synchronized to the input
signal. Arming occurs on the rising edge of external arm (ExtArm), and the
measurement gate is synchronized to the trigger event on CHANNEL 1.
Perform the following procedure to accomplish this task.
1 Turn on the Counter, and press Stop/Single to put the Counter into the single
measurement mode.
2 Connect the signal to channel 1 input, and press Freq Ch 1 key.
3 Connect an external TTL signal to the Counters rear-panel Ext Arm connector.
4 Press Gate & ExtArm key.
GATE: TIME is displayed.
5 Press any one of the arrow keys until GATE: EXTERNL is displayed.
6 Press Gate & ExtArm or Enter key.
