58 Agilent Cary 630 FTIR Spectrometer User’s Guide
There are two humidity indicators — one at the back of the
spectrometer (see Figure 20), and one on the bottom where the
desiccant cartridge is accessed (see Figure 21). There are three levels
on the humidity indicator: 10, 20 and 30%. The level is determined by
viewing the indicator and determining which section is a ‘lavender’
(rather than pink or blue) color. Changing the desiccant is
recommended once the humidity level has reached 30%.

To replace the desiccant:
1 Remove the desiccant from the sealed bag.
2 Turn off the spectrometer.
3 Turn the spectrometer onto its side.
4 Use a wrench to remove the spent desiccant cartridge.
5 Replace the desiccant cartridge with a new one. Firmly tighten by
hand, but do not over-tighten.
6 Dispose of the old cartridge appropriately.
NOTE
After the main unit has been exposed and opened to the environment, allow the
system to sufficiently warm up and equilibrate prior to use. This will depend on
how long the system was open, and can take 30 minutes to 2 hours.
