4 OmniSwitch Backup Power
Shelf/System (BPS)
Note. The OmniSwitch Backup Power Shelf/System (BPS) does not currently support backup power for
Power over Ethernet (PoE) on OS6860 switches or VCs. References to PoE in this chapter are provided
only to describe physical PoE-related BPS attributes such as power supplies, connectors and power
supply bays.
The OmniSwitch Backup Power Shelf/System (BPS) is a stackable power shelf that provides 450W or
900W of backup system power (depending on the number of power supplies installed) to virtual chassis
(VCs) of up to eight OS6860 switches.
A maximum of two system power supplies and three POE power supplies can be installed in a single
OS-BPS chassis. If two or more like power supplies are installed, each will share the power load.
