E.5 SELECTION OF HYDRAULIC OIL
Viscosity is one of the most important properties of hydraulic oils because it affects the hydraulic
sealing and the functionality of the safety valves. Therefore the oil temperature is very important
because even small changes in temperature affect viscosity: as the temperature increases, viscosity
decreases. The following table shows the effect of temperature on oil viscosity.
STARTING AND OPERATING VISCOSITY RANGE
STARTING AND OPERATING TEMPERATURE RANGE
Max allowable viscosity at startup
Min allowable viscosity during crane operations
Recommended operating viscosity
Min starting oil temperature
