B.8.4 IN-SERVICE WIND
The crane is designed to withstand occasionals loads due to the wind effects.
According to EN 13001-2, the crane can be safely operated under the following wind state:
- Wind state: Light
- Max. mean wind speed: v = 9.4 m/s (34 km/h, 5 Beaufort)
If the wind speed should exceed the limit above, then a derating factor shall be applied to the max.
working pressure, as follows:
p
r
= κ
w
· p
max
where:
κ
w
is the derating factor to apply at mean wind speed of over 9.4 m/s
p
r
is the reduced pressure
p
max
is the max. working pressure under standard conditions
The graphic below shows the trend of κ
w
as the wind speed (v) changes.
It is recommended to not operate the crane when the wind speed exceeds 18.9 m/s (68 km/h,
8 Beaufort).
The table below shows the derating factors for normal and heavy wind state:
Wind state
v
Light 9.4 (5 Beaufort) 1.00
Normal 13.3 (6 Beaufort) 0.90
Heavy 18.9 (8 Beaufort) 0.70
