Addressable system - a re alarm and detecon system that contains addressable alarm zone
facilies or addressable control devices.
Alarm Signalling Equipment (ASE) circuitry that provides the necessary indicaon to the monitoring
service providers.
Alarm Vericaon Facility (AVF) - that part of the FACP, which provides an automac reseng
funcon for spurious alarm signals so that they will not iniate Master Alarm Facility (MAF), or ACF
funcons inadvertently. Programming sets this opon
Alarm Zone - the specic poron of a building or complex idened by a parcular alarm zone facility.
Alarm Zone Circuit (AZC) - the link or path that carries signals from an actuang device(s) to an alarm
zone facility(s).
Alarm Zone Facility (AZF) - that part of the control and indicang equipment that registers and
indicates signals (alarm and fault) received from its alarm zone circuit. It also transmits appropriate
signals to other control and indicang facilies.
Alert Signal - an audible signal, or combinaon of audible and visible signals, from the emergency
warning system to alert wardens and other nominated personnel as necessary to commence
prescribed acons.
Ancillary Control Facility (ACF) - that poron of the control and indicang equipment that on receipt
of a signal iniates predetermined acons in external ancillary devices.
Ancillary Equipment - remote equipment connected to FACP.
Ancillary Relay - relay within FACP to operate ancillary equipment.
Ancillary Output - output for driving ancillary equipment.
Convenonal System - is a re detecon system using a dedicated circuit for each alarm zone.
Distributed System - a re alarm and detecon system where secons of the control and indicang
equipment are remotely located from the re indicator panel or where sub-indicator panel(s)
communicate with a main re indicator panel.
Field Connecons - are connecons made to FACP or ancillary equipment at the project during
installaon.
Fire Alarm System - an arrangement of components and apparatus for giving an audible, visible, or
other percepble alarm of re, and which may also iniate other acon.
Fire Detecon System - an arrangement of detectors and control and indicang equipment employed
for automacally detecng re and iniang other acon as arranged.
Fire Alarm Control Panel (FACP) - a panel on which is mounted an indicator or indicators together
with associated equipment for the re alarm or sprinkler system.
Fire Resisng - an element of construcon, component or structure which, by requirement of the
Regulatory Authority, has a specied re resistance.
Indicang Equipment - the part of a re detecon and or alarm system, which provides indicaon of
any warning signals (alarm and fault), received by the control equipment.
Interface - The interconnecon between equipment that permits the transfer of data.
Master Alarm Facility (MAF) - that part of the control and indicang equipment which receives alarm
and fault signals from any alarm zone facility and iniates the common signal (alarm and/or fault) for
transmission to the re control staon where appropriate. Bells and other ancillary funcons may be
iniated from this facility.
Power Supply - that poron of the FACP which supplies all voltages necessary for its operaon.
