Addressable system - a re alarm and detecon system that contains addressable alarm zone
facilies or addressable control devices.
Alarm Signalling Equipment (ASE) – circuitry that provides the necessary indicaon to the monitoring
service providers.
Alarm Vericaon Facility (AVF) - that part of the FACP, which provides an automac reseng
funcon for spurious alarm signals so that they will not iniate Master Alarm Facility (MAF), or ACF
funcons inadvertently. Programming sets this opon
Alarm Zone - the specic poron of a building or complex idened by a parcular alarm zone facility.
Alarm Zone Circuit (AZC) - the link or path that carries signals from an actuang device(s) to an alarm
zone facility(s).
Alarm Zone Facility (AZF) - that part of the control and indicang equipment that registers and
indicates signals (alarm and fault) received from its alarm zone circuit. It also transmits appropriate
signals to other control and indicang facilies.
Alert Signal - an audible signal, or combinaon of audible and visible signals, from the emergency
warning system to alert wardens and other nominated personnel as necessary to commence
prescribed acons.
Ancillary Control Facility (ACF) - that poron of the control and indicang equipment that on receipt
of a signal iniates predetermined acons in external ancillary devices.
Ancillary Equipment - remote equipment connected to FACP.
Ancillary Relay - relay within FACP to operate ancillary equipment.
Ancillary Output - output for driving ancillary equipment.
Convenonal System - is a re detecon system using a dedicated circuit for each alarm zone.
Distributed System - a re alarm and detecon system where secons of the control and indicang
equipment are remotely located from the re indicator panel or where sub-indicator panel(s)
communicate with a main re indicator panel.
Field Connecons - are connecons made to FACP or ancillary equipment at the project during
installaon.
Fire Alarm System - an arrangement of components and apparatus for giving an audible, visible, or
other percepble alarm of re, and which may also iniate other acon.
Fire Detecon System - an arrangement of detectors and control and indicang equipment employed
for automacally detecng re and iniang other acon as arranged.
Fire Alarm Control Panel (FACP) - a panel on which is mounted an indicator or indicators together
with associated equipment for the re alarm or sprinkler system.
Fire Resisng - an element of construcon, component or structure which, by requirement of the
Regulatory Authority, has a specied re resistance.
Indicang Equipment - the part of a re detecon and or alarm system, which provides indicaon of
any warning signals (alarm and fault), received by the control equipment.
Interface - The interconnecon between equipment that permits the transfer of data.
Master Alarm Facility (MAF) - that part of the control and indicang equipment which receives alarm
and fault signals from any alarm zone facility and iniates the common signal (alarm and/or fault) for
transmission to the re control staon where appropriate. Bells and other ancillary funcons may be
iniated from this facility.
Power Supply - that poron of the FACP which supplies all voltages necessary for its operaon.
