Upgrading Flash ROM Update Process
Since the SATA RAID controller features ash rmware, it is not
necessary to change the hardware ash chip in order to upgrade
the RAID rmware. The user can simply re-program the old
rmware through the In-Band PCIe bus McRAID storage manager.
New releases of the rmware are available in the form of a DOS le
on the shipped CD or Areca’s web site. The les available at the FTP
site for each model contain the following les in each version:
ARCXXXXNNNN.BIN Software Binary Code (where “XXXX” refers to
the model name and “NNNN” refers to the software code type)
ARCXXXBIOS.BIN :
→
PCI card BIOS for system board using
ARCXXXBOOT.BIN :
→
RAID controller hardware initialization
ARCXXXFIRM.BIN :
→
RAID kernel program
ARCXXXMBR0.BIN:
→
Master Boot Record for supporting Dual Flash

README.TXT contains the history information of the software code
change in the main directory. Read this le rst to make sure you
are upgrading to the proper binary le. Select the right le for
the upgrade. Normally, user upgrades the ARCXXXXBIOS.BIN for
system M/B compatibility and ARCXXXXFIRM.BIN for RAID function
upgrades.
Note:
Please update all Binary Code (BIOS, BOOT and FIRM) before
you reboot system. Otherwise, a mixed rmware package
may hang the controller.
