Description
3.3.5 Braking system
A pedelec's brake system is primarily operated
using the brake lever on the handlebars.
If the left brake handle is pulled, the brake on the
front wheel is applied.
If the right brake handle is pulled, the brake on the
rear wheel is applied.
The brakes are used as an emergency stop
system and bring the bicycle to a halt quickly and
safely in the event of an emergency.
The brake is applied using the brake lever either
with the brake lever and shift cable (mechanical
brake) or
with the brake lever and hydraulic brake cable
(hydraulic brake).
3.3.5.1 Mechanical brake
The brake lever is connected with the brake via a
wire inside the shift cable (also known as a
Bowden cable).

3.3.5.2 Hydraulic brake
The brake fluid is in a closed hose system. If the
brake lever is pulled, the brake fluid transfers
pressure to the brake on the wheel.
