BREAK-IN PERIOD
Operation During Break-In
A break-in period of 10 operating hours
or 500 km (300 mi) is required for the
vehicle.
After the break-in period, the vehicle
should be inspected by an authorized
Lynx dealer, repair shop, or person of
your own choosing. Refer to
FIRST IN-
SPECTION
section.
Engine
During the break-in period:
Avoid prolonged full throttle opera-
tion.
Avoid sustained accelerations.
Avoid prolonged cruising speeds.
Avoid engine overheating.
However, brief accelerations and
speed variations contribute to a good
break-in.
During the first few hours of break-in,
the engine management system con-
trols some engine parameters which
will slightly reduce the engine perfor-
mance.
E-TEC Models
During a predetermined period, the
engine management system controls
some engine parameters.
The duration is based on fuel volume.
It will take approximately two fuel
tanks to complete the break-in.
During this period:
The engine performance and behav-
ior will not be optimal.
The fuel and oil consumption will be
higher.
Drive Belt
A new drive belt requires a break in pe-
riod of 50 km (30 mi).
During the break-in period:
Avoid strong acceleration and decel-
eration.
Avoid pulling a load.
Avoid high speed cruising.
