Instructions for Measurement
3. Power On the amplifier using the On/Off switch on the back panel of the ampli-
fier. If this is the first time you have turned the amplifier on, the Main Set-up
menu will appear on the screen. If this menu does not appear, press until
the Main Set-up menu appears on the screen.
4. If you feel the screen in too dark to read, use and to move the cursor
to the Display-lighting menu, press and select
ON. Press .
5. Connect the accelerometer cable to the Charge Input on the front panel of the
amplifier. For this example a Charge Accelerometer 4384 will be used with a
sensitivity of 1pC/ms
-2
.
6. Mount the accelerometer on the test piece using one of the methods discussed in
section 6.3.
7. Move the cursor up to Mounted Resonance and press .
8. Select Impulse Frequency and press . Use and to specify an
impulse frequency which seems realistic for the system under test. Press .
9. Select Measure Resonance. The value shown must be as close as possible to the
Resonance frequency specified on the calibration chart for the accelerometer (for
the 4384, 42kHz). If it isn’t, try mounting the accelerometer elsewhere or more
carefully. When the mounted resonance frequency read-out comes as close as
possible to that specified in the accelerometer’s calibration chart, press .
10. Move the cursor to Display Mode and press . Select the option Digits +
Select. Press .
11. Move the cursor to Display Set-up. Press . Make sure that the select *
shows beside RMS. Press . In this menu is possible to choose up to three
options. However, for this example only the RMS option should be selected. To
un-select any other options, move up or down the list, and press where a *
appears beside any other the other possibilities.
12. Move the cursor Measurement Setup and press .
13. Select the following settings for the parameters appearing in the Measurement
Set-up menus:
● Measure Mode: Acceleration
● Transducer Sensitivity: 1.00 pC/ms
−2
(or for any accelerometer, the value
shown on the calibration chart)
● Input Type: Floating or grounded according to the measurement set-up as
specified in section 3.1.5
● Upper Frequency Limit: 30kHz
● Lower Frequency Limit: 10Hz
