5 Introduction
The minispec mq20 Toothpaste Analyzer is a benchtop Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR)
analyzer for detection of fluorine (
19
F).
This manual provides instructions on proper installation of the minispec and an introduction to
the use of the minispec hardware and software. Topics covered include:
• Installation of hardware (section Installation of the minispec mq-Series).
• Installation of software for Windows
TM
7 32-bit/64-bit if needed (section Software
Installation [}31]).
• Software configuration, if needed. Analyzers typically are equipped with PC systems and
pre-installed software.
• Proper operation of the system by using minispec Plus software, the GUI for the mq20
Toothpaste Analyzer (calibration, measurement, result, administration, etc.).
• Using minispec.exe software, the minispec software used for diagnostic and service
purposes.
• The software functions are discussed step by step, using pictures to help familiarize the
user with all of the accessible minispec features.
• Finally, for a better understanding of the principles involved, an introduction to the basics
of NMR is provided in the section Basic NMR Principles [}73].

The minispec software package minispec Plus is the main software running on the mq20
Toothpaste Analyzer systems and is described in this manual. Software operation is
explained in detail in the following manuals, which are available on the minispec software CD/
