SMART MATRIX FEEDER 3.14
Operating Notes about LEARN Function
In order to optimize the quality of products and to ensure the best manufacturing efficiency, it’s necessary
that all the feeds absorb the same amount of yarn (LFA).
To achieve these results, the Smart Matrix Feeder System offers you the possibility of learning and
memorizing the amount of yarn absorbed (LFA) during a sample cycle; then it will control that throughout the
subsequent cycles the machine keeps such LFA value within the tolerance limits previously setup.
The LEARN function can be activated pressing the button
, providing that it has been enabled during the
style programming stage (more precisely within the LFATOL window of STYLE EDIT function of
ULTRAFEEDER/UNIFEEDER devices).
Actually two different LEARN modes exist:
1- LFA initial learning and simple error signaling, at the end of every cycle, in case of
tolerance limits exceeded.
2- AUTOLFA initial learning and attempt to compensate the work tension of the various
ULTRAFEEDER/UNIFEEDER devices, in order to keep the production within the
tolerance limits setup. If, notwithstanding the compensation attempts, the tolerance
limits are exceeded, then the system will stop the textile machine, signaling the error.
The LFA mode allows setting two tolerance limits (LFA LOW (%) and LFA HIGH (%)). Such limits refer to the
amount of absorbed yarn (expressed in m %) with respect to the LFA value learnt during the sample cycle.
The AUTOLFA mode too allows setting two tolerance limits (AUTOLFA LOW (%) and AUTOLFA HIGH (%)),
however such limits are referred to the Work Tension (P1) of the ULTRAFEEDER devices.
The enabling/disabling of LFA and AUTOLFA functions, including the relevant setting of the tolerance limits,
shall be done within the LFATOL window during the style programming operation (STYLE EDIT).
Inside the LFATOL window, beside the two mentioned LEARN modes (LFA and AUTOLFA) you may also
enable or disable the CALIBRATION LFA function.
The availability of such LFA window, and therefore the possibility of either enabling or disabling the LFA,
AUTOLFA and CALIBRATION features, depends on the application chosen in SETUP-APPLICATION, as
summarized in the following table.

If in STYLE OPTION SETUP you activated the MULTIPLE feature, then the LEARN operation shall be
carried out for all configured styles.
The LEARN functions use two external interface signals (PRX and ZPX) to synchronize the individual
operating phases, according to configuration chosen.
The LEARN function shall be activated with “Machine Stationary” conditions.
