2.9.4 Detector Smoke Alarm Test
A smoke test should be performed on each detector to ensure that the correct response is obtained.
One of two methods may be used to conduct the Smoke Alarm Test.
Note: Isolation of the Slowdown/Shutdown relays is required before commencing the smoke
alarm test, see sections Error! Reference source not found. and Error! Reference source not found.. If
the Common Alarm Relay is connected to the engine slowdown or shutdown system this should
be disconnected.
Warning: Carrying out this test without isolation or disconnection of the output relays will cause
the engine slowdown or shutdown system to operate.
Method 1 Using a Wick
1. Cut a length of wick approximately 30 mm long. Assemble the smoke tester by pushing the
wick into the wick holder fitted with the pipette bulb. Press the nylon pipe into the Pipe
connector (refer to Error! Reference source not found.).

2. Push the nylon pipe of the smoke tester into the connector on the side of the Detector base
body (refer to Error! Reference source not found.).
