Maintenance 4-
The 5150 is designed so that the cabling, optics, and power supply units are
hot swappable. This means that the unit can remain powered for all these
maintenance tasks. There is no requirement to remove power from the unit
before performing these types of routine maintenance.
Note: If you have opted to power both DC power supplies from the same
circuit, you will need to power down the system to replace a power supply.
Ciena recommends that each power supply be fed from a separate circuit
to avoid this problem.
Adding or replacing a 10 Gigabit Ethernet Module is a service impacting
maintenance. The 5150 must be completely powered down to add or replace
this module.
This chapter provides maintenance instructions. It discusses the following
procedures:
• “Adding a 10 Gigabit Ethernet Module”
• “Replacing a 10 Gigabit Ethernet Module”
• “Replacing a Power Supply Module”
WARNING: To prevent ESD damage to electronic components, always use an ESD
wrist strap when handling modules.
