Procedure 4-2
To Replace a 10 Gigabit Ethernet Module
Step Action
1 Remove power from the 5150 by disabling input power to both PS A and
PS B.
The PWR LED on the front of the 5150 is now off and the unit is unpowered.
2 Remove all faceplate cabling to the module being replaced.
3 Remove the XFPs by pressing or pulling on the ejector lever (depending on
the type of optic used) and gently pulling the optic out of the slot.
Set the optics aside for later reuse.
4 Loosen the two captive screws on the left and right of the module.
5 Pull the module out of the slot and set it aside.
6 Remove the new 10 Gigabit Ethernet module from the packaging and inspect
for damage.
7 Gently slide the module into the exposed slot.
8 Secure the module in place using the two captive screws on the left and right
side of the module.
When the 5150 is powered on, the 10 Gigabit Ethernet option module will
initialize after it is installed. Initialization will be shown by a blinking green
Status LED. For more information see “10 Gigabit Ethernet Pluggable Module
LEDs” on page 5-4.
9 Install the pluggable optics removed in step 3.
10 Reinstall the faceplate cabling to the two ports on the module.
11 Use the packaging from the new module to wrap up the module that was been
removed. If the module is damaged, follow local practices to return the unit
for repair. If the module is a basic functionality module that may be
redeployed, return the unit to the pick center for storage and redeployment.
Note: It may be helpful to annotate the box with the status of the unit
(damaged or for redeployment) before leaving the site.
12 Restore power to the input DC circuits for PS A and PS B.
The power supplies will turn on.
