Adding a 10 Gigabit Ethernet Module
The 10 Gigabit Ethernet module is an optional module and can be added to
an existing installation.
Multiple versions of the module are available. See “10 Gigabit Ethernet
Module(s)” on page 2-6 for more information.
Up to two of these modules can be installed in the 5150. These modules
supply two 10 Gigabit ports each. When one module is being installed, it can
be installed in either slot. Functionality is determined by the module type, and
not the slot it is installed in.
If the 10 Gigabit Ethernet modules are not installed, the filler plates must
remain in place on the faceplate of the chassis.
Adding a 10 Gigabit Ethernet module is a service impacting procedure. You
will need to power down the 5150 to complete this maintenance.
See “To Add a 10 Gigabit Ethernet Module” on page 4-4 for a procedure.
Replacing a 10 Gigabit Ethernet Module
You may need to replace a 10 Gigabit Ethernet module. Two possibilities
requiring module replacement are:
• the installed module is not functioning properly (should be indicated by a
Red Status LED on the faceplate of the module) and needs to be returned
for repair.
• the installed module does not offer the advanced functionality desired for
the ports. Therefore, replacing the module with a module of a different type
may be desired. See “10 Gigabit Ethernet Module(s)” on page 2-6 for an
overview of the different modules available and their functionality.
