TRAVELING CABLES
1) The Traveling Cables exit the back of the Controller Box at the bottom. Route them to the
underside of the platform.
2) Attach the Traveling Cables to the underside of the platform using the Under Cab Cable
Brackets. (See Figure # 46). Secure the Under Cab Cable Brackets to the bottom of the
platform using #10-1/2" wood screws. Leave a large loop of cable at the point where the
Traveling Cables exit the Under Cab Cable Bracket. The loop should be large enough to
accommodate the full up and down travel of the elevator.
3) When multiple Traveling Cables are used, insert two under each wedge.
4) To route the Traveling Cables to the Halfway Junction Box, pass them behind the safety
device tripping rod and the lifting bracket up to the Halfway Junction Box.
5) To support the load of the cables, install the two Tension Relief Brackets one (1) foot
(305 mm) below the bottom of the Halfway Junction Box. (See Figure # 47). The
Tension Relief Brackets support the weight of the Traveling Cables, so that this weight
does not act on the Halfway Junction Box terminals.
6) Ensure that when the elevator is run to the top floor, there is at least 12" (305 mm) of
cable hanging below the Tension Relief Brackets and a gentle bend going up to the cab.
With the elevator at the bottom landing, ensure that the cable is not too tight and is not
rubbing on the side of the platform or piling up on the pit floor. If the cable is not installed
properly, short cable life will result.
7) If there is extra length of Traveling Cable, do not let it pile up on the pit floor. Fold it
neatly and fasten the excess Traveling Cable to a brace under the platform, or fold it in
between the Halfway Junction Box and the Tension Relief Brackets.
8) Note: If more than two (2) traveling cables are required, bend and double over the
cable ends, then insert the ends into smaller clamping wedges.
