4.3 Cleaning of mechanical parts
The instrument requires no particular maintenance. One must however avoid deposits
forming on the plunger head (11).
After long service (about 2000 strikes), the instrument should be cleaned in the following
manner:
1. Unscrew the ring nut (15) and remove the two
part ring (14). Unscrew the cap (1) and remove
the spring (12) and all the moving parts.
NOTE:
To extract the latter, the hammer (7)
must be released from the hook (17).
2. Strike the plunger head (11) a few light blows
with the hammer (7), separating them from the
guide rod (8) and the spring (12). Release the
spring (10) only at the hammer end (7), leaving
it hooked on to the sleeve (13) at the other end.
3. Clean the parts using thinner or gasoline (no
trichlorethylene), dry with compressed air and
then lubricate the rod of the striker with a light
coat of oil.
