Afterremovingtheaxle,pushtherearwheelforwardandliftthechainoffthesprocket.Youdon’thave
toremovethechainguardtogetthechainoff,andyoudon’thavetoremovetherearbrakecaliperto
getthewheeloff.
Oncethechainisoffthesprocket,
rollthewheeloutfromunderthemotorcycle.Ontherearwheel,
therearetwobushings(oneoneithersideofthewheel).Thethickerbushinggoesontherightsideof
themotorcycle,andthethinnerbushinggoesontheleftsideofthemotorcycle.
Atthispoint,you
canremovetherearwheelfromthemotorcyclebyrollingittotherear.
WheelandTireInspection
Checkifthetireairpressureiswithinthespecifiedrange(33psifront,35psirear).Inspectthevalve
stemsforlocknutinstallation,locknutsecurity,andvalvestemcondition.
Donotoperatethe
motorcyclewithoutthevalvestemcapinplace.Inspectthetirecondition.Replaceanytirewithtread
thatisworndowntothetreadwearindicator(orifthetreadremainingislessthan2mm),ifthetire
exhibitscupping,orifthetirehasany
otherdefe cts.
Inspectthespokesonboththefrontandtherearwheel.Ifanyspokesareloose,tightenthemand
checkforwheeltrueness.Ifanyspokesaremissing,donotreplacesingle spokesasalongtermfix.The
entirewheelshouldberelacedatthenextavailableopportunity.
Checktherimsfordents.Iftherimisdented,itshouldbereplaced.
Whenthewheelsareremovedfromthemotorcycle,checkthegreaseseals,thewheelbearings,andthe
rearwheelcushdriverubbercushion.Ifthegreasesealsarecutortorn,theyshouldbereplaced.
Ifthewheelbearinginnerracesareloose,grittywhenrotated,ornoisy,replacethebearing.
Ifthecushdrivecushionisdamagedordegraded,replacethecushion.
