Theprocedureissimilartotheprocedureforreplacingthebrakefluid.Openthemastercylinderby
unscrewingthetwoscrewssecuringthemastercylindercover.Removethemastercylindercoverand
placeitinanareawhereitwillnotbecomecontaminated.Removethecaliperbleedcapandattach
a
smalldiametertubetothecaliperbleedfitting.Routethetubetoareceptacle.Openthecaliper
bleedfittingbyunscrewingitslightly(turnitcounterclockwisetodoso)anddepressthebrakeleverto
pumpbrakefluidoutthroughthecaliperbleedfitting.Priortoallowingthebrakelever
toreturn,close
thecaliperbleedfittingbyturningitclockwise.Addbrakefluidtothemastercylinderas
necessary.Repeattheprocessuntilthebrakefluid exitingthecaliperisfreeofairbubbles.Closethe
caliperbleedfittingandreplacethefittingcap.Addbrakefluidtothe
mastercylindersuchthatthe
upperleveliswithin1/8‐inchofthetop(donotoverfillthemastercylinder).Replacethemaster
cylindercoverandthescrewssecuringittothemastercylinder.
Aftercompletingtheabove,pumptherearbrakepedal(ifyouarebleedingtherearbrake)
oroperate
thefrontbrakelever(ifyouarebleedingthefrontbrake)severaltimes.Operatethemotorcycleto
assuresatisfactorybrakeperformance.
InspectingandReplacingtheBrakeDisks
Youshouldreplaceanybrakediskthatiswornbelowservicewearlimitsorifthediskiswarped.You
can
measurediskthicknessandstraightnesswithoutremovingthewheelfromthemotorcycle.Youwill
needtoremovethewheelifyoureplacethebrakedisk.
Measurethediskthickness.Ifthediskislessthan2 mmthick,
replacethedisk.
Useadialindicatorwiththewheeloffthegroundtomeasuredisk
runout.Spinthewheelandmeasurerunout.Iftherunoutexceeds
0.3mm,replacethedisk.Youonlyneedtodothisif
thediskappears
tobevisiblywarped(whichisnotlikely)orifthebrakespulsatewhen
applied.
Youwillhavetoremovethewheelinordertoreplacethedisk.Theprocedureforwheelremovalis
explainedelsewhereinthisServiceManual.
EachdiskissecuredwithsixAllenbolts.UseblueLoctitewhenreinstallingtheboltsthatsecurethe
brakedisk.
