73Chapter 6: Start Your Sensor
6.3 Choose Sensor Site
Choosing a comfortable, effective place for your sensor is important. Discuss ideal
sensor insertion sites with your HCP.
People from 2 to 17 years old can use either their upper buttocks or bellies (abdomens).
Those 18 years and older can only use their belly.
Tips
Do:
Place at least 3 inches from your insulin pump infusion set or injection site
If needed, shave the area so adhesive patch sticks securely
Make sure area is clean and free of lotions, perfumes, and medications
Contact your HCP if sensor adhesive irritates your skin
Don’t:
Don't use same site for 2 sensors in a row
Don't use bony sites, such as over your ribs
Don't use sites where sensor can be rubbed – by your belt, waist band, seat belt
strap – or where you lay when you sleep
18 years and older
