The document sensors sense the document's length in
the pel path and line progression directions.
2When the ADF is installed, the document size
(pel path direction) sense for ADF side.

The optical system goes forward to read the document
darkness immediately after the document size is
read.

The area over which darkness is sensed is determined
according to the document size sensed.
