17.3.2. CONNECTION BETWEEN A PC AND A DEVICE THROUGH A NET-
WORK
In this configuration we must use a straight (non-crossover) Ethernet cable.
See your network administrator for the choice of parameters of the device (IP address, net-
work mask, etc.)
NOTE
Most of the current switches are of the "Auto Sense” type. The connection to the switch can
be done with either a "straight" or "crossover" cable.
SETTING OF THE ETHERNET CARD OF THE PC UNDER WINDOWS XP
This paragraph only concerns the case of connection no. 1 and has no meaning for the case
no. 2 since the device is inserted in a network.
In the case no. 1 only one device is connected to the network card and constitutes a small lo-
cal area network with a single node (device).
