4.1 Safety
WARNING:
Obe
y the safety instrucons in this secon and take note of appropriate precauons.
If not, injury to people and damage to equipment can result.
Prevent any part of the human body coming into contact with the vacuum.
The nXDS pump is not intended for pumping explosive gases connuously (refer to
ATEX direcve implicaon on page 9).
Ensure that the pump is suitable for the applic
aon. If in doubt, refer our guidelines on
vacuum pump and vacuum system safety, or contact us for advice.
A suitably trained and supervised technician must perform the installaon of the pump.
Obey the safety instrucons listed below, especially when connecng the pump into an
exisng system. Details of the specic safety precauons are given at the appropriate
point in the instrucons.
Wear the appropriate safety clothing if contact with contaminated components is
ancipated. Dismantle and clean contaminated components inside a fume
cupboard.
Vent and purge the vacuum system before starng installaon work.
Ensure that the installaon technician is familiar with the safety procedures that
relate to the products handled by the pumping system.
Disconnect the other components in the pumping system from the electrical
supply to prevent accidental operaon.
4.2 System design consideraons
Consider the following points when designing the pumping system:
We recommend you to use a foreline vacuum isolaon valve to allow the pump to warm
up before pumping condensible vapours or if a vacuum needs to be maintained when
the pump is not running.
Use a suitable valve to isolate the pump from the vacuum system if the pump needs to
warm up before pumping condensable vapours or if vacuum needs to be maintained
when the pump is switched o.
Avoid high levels of heat input into the pump from the process gases, otherwise the
pump may overheat and cause the thermal protecon system to operate.
Ensure that the exhaust pipeline cannot become blocked. If an exhaust isolaon valve is
installed, ensure that the pump cannot be operated with the valve closed. Refer to
Connect to the vacuum system on page 28.
Provide for a purge of inert gas when the pumping system is shut down, to dilute
dangerous gases to safe concentraons. Contact our Applicaon team for further advice
on diluon requirements if required.
