Interlocking microduct separators were designed for a 3mm fibre to the home solution.
Cutting the Slot
A thin slot cutting tool is used. The precautions and procedure are described below.
■ Road closure is not required after the initial slot is made due to the narrow width of the slot
■ Slot must be examined before inserting to ensure there are no sharp stones or rocks that could
impinge on the m/d.
■ Installation is quick and easy and requires no special tools
■ plasticized concrete is poured over the product up to 70mm below the surface
■ Hot Bitumen is then poured over the plasticized concrete to complete the re-instatement
■ If the product has been installed on a slope, sand is added to the bitumen to thicken it up, to
stop it running down hill
■ The tarmac at each side of the slot cut is moistened with a water / wallpaper paste mix before
bitumen is poured into the slot. This helps to remove excess bitumen / spills after installation.
Advantages of Slot Cutting
■ It is extremely fast to deploy - up to 5 times faster than traditional ducted methods
■ It is substantially lower cost - generally less than half the cost of traditional methods
■ There is minimal disruption - resulting in continued traffic flow
■ It allows seamless reinstatement - dramatically reducing any environmental impact
■ It is very flexible - ring or point to point - Single or Multimode
■ Lower depth on installation means reduction in depth for chamber installation, reducing both labour and chamber costs
■ The Trenchless Fibre Technique allows us to implement fibre optic networks in far less time, at a far lower cost, and with much less disruption than
traditional deployment methods.
