5.3 Sheath Removal / Window Cutting of Direct Install and LFH Products
Gaining access to microducts to expose the ends or performing a window cut to expose them is straightforward.
The critical factor is to ensure that the cutting tool is set correctly, so it does not rupture the m/ds beneath. This
is done as stated in DB handling instructions, by setting the depth of the cutter blade against the end of the
product. The DI sheath is usually 1.5mm so cut to a depth at least 0.75mm. The DI sheath should then break
away easily.
5.4 Sheath removal of 1DB 5mm
The purpose of this instruction is to show a method of stripping the sheath from the range of 1 way 5mm products using the
rotational stripping tool, product 7794.
1. Insert the 1DB into the strip-
ping tool. The end of the
sheath should sit level with
the large end of the tool (as
shown). Close the grip.
2. Rotate the tool clockwise
and anti-clockwise until the
two halves of the tool come
together (maximum cutting
depth reached).
3. Either remove the tool and
pull off the sheath (as shown)
or use the tool to pull the
sheath off.
4. The m/d is now ready for
connection into the main net-
work. If more m/d is required
then the stripping process can
be repeated until enough m/d
is exposed.
