THE
INSTALLATION AND MAINTENANCE TRAINING MANUAL
Closedown 3A
Closedown 2A
A m/d gap of 120mm is left after blowing.
7.10 Closedown Connectors (2A and 3A)
Closedown 3A (7249)
This type of connector is needed when a centre-blow operation is required. The installation procedure
for this operation will be discussed in the coming sections.
At this stage we discuss only how it is applied to the microduct.
The 3A shown is the 5mm-5mm version (product code 7249.) There is also an 8mm-8mm Closedown
Connector (product code 7331.)
Once the fi bre has been blown in both directions the gap can be closed by sliding the closedown over the fi bre unit and locking the ends by
rotating the yellow end knobs.
This operation cannot be performed with a straight connector; since some space is needed to manipulate the fi bre without damaging it.
Using a one-piece closedown sleeve accommodates the fi bre unit loop well and matches the m/d
gap of 120mm, equal to the blowing head width.
Closedown 2A (6022)
The closedown connector used in the early days of blown fi bre is still used today but its use means
that the closure must be longer.
