INNOVATION AND FLEXIBILITY
THE
INSTALLATION AND MAINTENANCE TRAINING MANUAL
Greater care needs to be taken when carrying out this stage on 2 and 4 way
Take one of the bundles and selecting each fibre individually pull them slowly from the resin.
Repeat this process until all but one of the fibres has been removed. For this one the resin needs to be held in
one hand and the fibre in the other, then pull apart slowly. Once all the fibres have been removed the empty
resin layer can be snapped off. Repeat this process for the other bundle. This becomes routine after some
practice.
Once all of the fibres have been removed check each of them for residual resin. This can be removed by the
use of cleaning tissue (as used with IPA when splicing). Avoid sliding your closed fingers along the fibre(s).
The result is that all fibres are free from resin and ready for termination. No solvent cleaning is required, as
there is no gel.
The picture opposite shows all the fibres stripped in an 8 way fibre bundle (the white fibre does not show up
well in the photo).
8.6 Fibre Colour Confi gurations
The sketches below show the colour configuration of 4 fibre products. These can be used when stripping off the outer sheaths to
ensure that you do not have crossed fibres.
