9.9 Blowing Performance and Installation Distance
Blowing distance is related to several different elements: m/d size, air flow, pressure, number of bends and their location in the route, bend radii of
the m/ds and tube bundles, winter and summer conditions etc.
In discussing blowing distance we must only consider fibre units. It is not possible to blow individual optical fibres long distances. In general, blowing
distances shown in the Mk V Blowing Performance Graph should be achievable but the factors which affect this performance; namely those mentioned
above, may not allow the installation distances quoted to be met. Emtelle tests with routes indicative of field situations. It is recommended that the
installation be carried out by an Emtelle certified installation company using a suitably conditioned air supply at a pressure of 15 bar.
Note that the minimum bend radius for the m/d assembly should not be less than 300mm.
‘Optimum blowing occurs in the ambient temperature range -10°C to 60°C, with the m/d at a similar temperature to the air. Blowing outside of these
limits, or with a substantial temperature difference between m/d and air, is possible but may result in a lower blow length.
NOTE: Installation distance into LFH microducts will be reduced by a factor of approximately 1.5 since the maximum pressure allowed with LFH
products is 10 bar.
