7.1 Straight Connectors
Blown fi bre connectors allow microducts to be joined seamlessly, so that the fi bre unit will still pass freely through the patch way. It is very impor-
tant to fi t the connectors correctly to avoid any loss of air pressure when the system is pressurised and also to avoid creating any gaps, which could
hinder the fi bre unit as it passes through the connector.
The m/ds must be pushed fi rmly into the connector after being cleanly cut until they go beyond the sealing rings and can be seen in the main body
of the clear connector. They will be unable to be pushed beyond this point as there is a shoulder within the connector body to stop the m/ds.
The straight connector joins two lengths of m/d of the same outer diameter, eg 5mm-to-5mm.

NOTE: When pushing the m/d into the connector, there is resistance felt TWICE, once as the m/d hits the O-ring and again when it reaches the stop.
It is good practice to become familiar with the ‘feel’ of this ‘double action’.
Straight connectors for heavy-wall tube
Many tubes now have a smaller ID than the original. Eg As well as 8/6 tube, there is 8/5 and 8/3.5.
There is 5/2.1 / 5/2.1. As well as 10/8 tube there is 10/6. and so on. Such tubes create a ‘step-shoul-
der’ inside a normal connector, which can affect the passage of fi bre-unit through the connector. We
have introduced connectors to match these smaller IDs, and they can be ordered to suit the route.
