Connecting High-Speed Stacking Cables
Thestackofswitchescanbeconnectedinaringordaisychaintopology.Inaring
topologyalltheswitchesareconnected.Theonlydifferenceinthecableconnectionsina
daisychaintopologyisthatonecableisnotinstalled.
Upto8switchescanbestackedtogetherand
connectedbyhigh‐speedstackingcables.
Youcanaddswitchesandreachuptoamaximumof384Ethernetportsperstack.The
high‐speedstackingcablesallowtheentirestacktooperatewithasingleIPaddress.
Thehigh‐speedstackingcablesareoptionalitemsandmustbeorderedseparately.
TheC2G124‐48andC2H124‐48supportthreetypesofcables:
•C2CAB‐SHORTcabletoconnecttwoadjacentswitchesinthestack.Ifthestackisina
configurationwheretheadjacentswitchesaretwofarapartfortheshortcables,the
longcablecanbeusedfortheconnections.
•C2CAB‐LONG
cabletoconnectfromthetopswitchtothebottomswitchinthestack.
YouonlyneedoneC2CAB‐LONGcableperstack.
•C2CAB‐5Mcabletoconnectfromthetopswitchtothebottomswitchinthestack
whenthesetwoswitchesmaybephysicallylocatedinseparatemounting
racksand
requirealongercablereach.
Figure 3‐7showsanexampleofafour‐highstackconnectedinaringtopology.AllSTACK
DOWNandSTACKUPconnectorsusedinthe installation.Thehigh‐speedstackingcable
connectionsarefromtheSTACKDOWNconnectorofoneswitchtotheSTACK
UP
connectorofthenextswitchupinthestack.Ahigh‐speedstackingcableconnectionfrom
theSTACKDOWNconnectoroftheswitchatthetopofthestacktotheSTACKUP
connectoratthebottomofthestackcompletestheringconnection.Inadaisychain
topology,one
cableisnotused.
Note: The C2G124-24 supports only the C2CAB-SHORT and C2CAB-LONG stacking
cables.
