3.3 Unit Level Troubleshooting
You can identify the trouble by checking the LCD indication on the printer and then
using the check list below. When an EPSON Status Monitor 3 message appears with
the printer connected to the PC, the total repair time can be shortened by consulting the
message. Once you identify the defective part, replace it by referring to Chapter 4
“Disassembly and Assembly”. Table below describes error status (LCD and EPSON
Status Monitor 3), possible causes and check points.
How to see the table:
At turning power on, there may be a case where an fatal error occurs due to breakdown
of the CR Motor. There are three possible causes of breakdown of the CR Motor.

CR Motor 1. Check to see if the CR Motor connector cable is
connected CN14 on the Main Board.
2. Check to see if any damage is observed on the CR
Motor connector cable.
1. Connect the CR Motor connector cable to the
CN14 on the Main Board.
2. Replace the CR Motor with a new one.
PF Roller does not rotate at all in
the power on sequence.
PF Motor 1. Check to see if the PF Motor connector cable is
connected CN12 on the Main Board.
2. Check to see if any damage is observed on the PF
Motor connector cable.
1. Connect the PF Motor connector cable to the
CN12 on the Main Board.
2. Replace the PF Motor with a new one.
The motion of the CR Unit is
obstructed by the CR lock lever.
ASF Motor 1. Check to see if the ASF Motor connector cable is
connected CN11 on the Main Board.
2. Check to see if the ASF Motor resistance is about 7.0
ohm by using tester.ÅiRefer to Table 3-1,Motor, Coil
Resistance)
3. Check to see if any damage is observed on the ASF
Motor connector cable.
1. Connect the ASF Motor connector cable to the
CN11 on the Main Board.
2. Replace the ASF Motor with a new one.
3. Replace the ASF Motor with a new one.
