If the machine successfully contacts the USA Technology servers across the GSM network, then
an authorization attempt of the credit card will be submitted to the payment process and
cardholder’s bank. The amount of the authorization is set separately for each machine and is
controlled by the operator through USA Technologies. If the authorization is declined, then the
USA Technologies notifies the machine and a message appears. Cards are declined by the
cardholder’s bank for many reasons. The Everest machine does not track or display these
reasons to the customer. It is simply declined.

If the authorization is approved, then the USA Technologies server notifies the machine and a
message appears. A temporary reserve of the authorization amount is held against the user’s
credit card. This may not be the amount that will be ultimately charged to the user’s card. If the
user purchases multiple bags of ice, then the ultimate charge amount will be commensurate
with the total number of products purchased.
Note: It is important to consider the authorization amount carefully. Authorization amounts
are set through the operator’s USA Technologies account. If the amount is set too low, then
the user will not be able to purchase very much and may be bothered by need to repetitively
re-authorize their card to purchase multiple vend items. There is a significant cost to the
operator associated with each individual transaction and each authorization begins a new
transaction. If the authorization amount is set too high then a typical user may get upset
because the authorization amount is a reserve held against their card until the actual
transaction amount closes to their statement which can be up to 24 hours after authorization.
If you have more questions regarding this topic, please contact USA Technologies or the
appropriate manufacturer of your card reader.
The main vending screen will now show the authorization amount as the LCD balance. That
this is the most that can be spent on this individual credit card transaction. You cannot use
coins/bills, vend cards or any other payment method to alter the LCD balance during a credit
card payment vend.
