● You are now ready to connect to the board to access Maintenance Mode.
● Locate the USB-to-Serial adapter and the Serial cable that is provided with your
machine.
● Plug USB-to-Serial cable into the PCB (circuit board) mounted on back wall of machine
by inserting the cable's end to the board allowing all of the pins to connect to the board.
This plug must be oriented and plugged in correctly in order for Tera Term to send data
correctly.
● Plug the USB end of the cable to your laptop’s USB port. Your computer is now
connected to the machine properly.
Using Tera Term and Maintenance Mode:
● Open/Start Tera Term on your computer by clicking on the Windows icon on the bottom
left corner of your computer and searching for Tera Term.
● Close the “New Connection” pop-up box that automatically opens when the programs
starts.
● Set correct parameters to allow for Maintenance Mode connection.
○ Port: COM1 or the lowest COM possible (There are usually a few options to
choose from, but the lowest port is always the best and most reliable to work
with.)
○ Baud Rate: 9600
○ THESE ARE THE ONLY OPTIONS THAT SHOULD BE CHANGED
○ Once correct parameters are set, choose OK, then pop-up box will close.
● Go to File a New Connection. This will open a “New Connection” pop-up box
● Select the “Serial” bubble which is the lower option. This tells Terra Term to look for a
serial connection coming into the laptop.
● Once Serial is chosen you must select the port you want to use. This must be the same
port you picked in the “Serial Port” parameters screen.
● Once all settings are correct, choose OK, and the “New Connection” pop-up will close.
● On your keyboard, push the letter “m”, making sure caps lock is not on, this will enter
Tera Term into the machine's maintenance mode.
Hints For Using Maintenance Mode:
● Once you enter Maintenance Mode the first time all settings SHOULD be set and saved
for future connections. However, always double check parameters to be sure they are
correct before connecting, or Maintenance Mode will not work. Maintenance Mode is a
terminal interface so no mouse function is available.
● Use keystrokes only. Also, no backspace/delete or editing functions are available. Type
carefully and if you need to edit a keystroke, hit enter and retry whatever you were
typing. Because Maintenance Mode is run from a software driven interrupt serial port, it
cycles with the machine’s microprocessor.
● It is normal for your terminal screen to refresh and flash rapidly. Each time your screen
flashes that means that means the values are being updated from the microprocessor.
The size of the terminal window can be adjusted based on your screen size and
