Cleaning and Sanitizing the Barrel and Saddle, Ice Chute and Floor Pan
● Empty all ice from the machine by vending and discarding.
● Open both front doors of the machine.
● Depress the “Barrel Jog Switch” until the opening in the barrel aligns with the opening in
the saddle. This is called the cleaning position.
● Turn off the main power to the machine at the 30-amp breaker.
● Put about 5 gallons of fresh water with mild detergent into the barrel.
● Turn the main power back on. Staying well clear of the moving barrel, rotate barrel until
the barrel drain holes are accessible. Turn the power back off.
● Using the long bottle brush supplied with each machine, clean the drain line.
● Turn the main power on again.
● Staying well clear, rotate the barrel approximately ten (10) times stopping at the home
position, allowing the barrel to drain completely.
● Rotate the barrel to the cleaning position.
● Thoroughly rinse the barrel.
● Put about three gallons of sanitizing solution into the barrel. Rotate the barrel again
about ten (10) times which will thoroughly sanitize the barrel and the saddle.
● Stop at the home position allowing the sanitizing solution to drain completely.
● Wash the ice chute with mild detergent, rinse thoroughly and spray with sanitizing
solution.
● Wash the floor pan and sump with mild detergent using the long handled brush, rinse
and spray with sanitizing solution.
Clean and Sanitizing the Scotsman Ice maker
● Cleaning the Scotsman ice maker will require
○ Scotsman Clear 1
○ Sanitizing Solution
○ Hot Water
○ Rags for scrubbing

● Note that the Scotsman Clear 1 amount varies based on which VX model you own.
○ VX1 - 10 oz
○ VX2 - 12 oz
○ VX3 and VX4 - 24 oz
● The VX1 and VX2 have 1 curtain and water distributor while the VX3 and VX4 have two
curtains and water distributors.
