All field wiring enters the F012-P through the bottom of the enclosure and connects to the circuit
assembly inside the enclosure. Wiring is routed through cable glands. Please make sure to order the
F012-P with the correct drilling pattern and thread (metal) or hole (plastic) sizes.
The wire screens (shield) are meant to prevent electromagnetic interference and shall be terminated
at one side to prevent ground loops. Connection of the screen can either be made to the common
ground terminal or at the sensor itself, whichever is appropriate to the application.
Inside of the F012-P, the various common ground terminals are connected to each other. It is
advised to terminate the wire screens in the vicinity of the sensor and to insulate the wire screen
with a shrink tube at the F012-P side.
6.4.4 POWER SUPPLY
When not directly supplied from mains (type PM), the external power supply must be an
approved ELV source, insulated from AC mains by double / reinforced insulation per CSA
C22.2 No. 61010-1 / UL61010-1 / EN/IEC 61010-1.
The F012-P can be powered from an external power supply. For Type PX or PD, an optional internal
power supply is also available in the form of a lithium battery (Type PB). When both external and
internal power supplies are available, the internal power supply is interrupted and will act as a
backup supply. Note that the optional backlight (Type ZB) requires an external power supply.
Type PX (8-30V DC) or PD (16-30 V DC)
All F012‘s are supplied with two terminals to power the product externally. With Type PX, a supply of
0.3W is required. Type PD offers an additional power output to supply the flowmeter and requires
1W.
Type PB – battery
Additional to the Types described above, Type PB offers an internal lithium primary battery, which
powers the F012 when no external supply is available.
Type PF (24 V) or PM (mains)
When the F-Series is supplied with Type PF, a power supply of 24V AC/DC, 15W is required. When
Type PM is supplied, mains power of 115 – 230 V AC, 15W is required.
6.4.5 SENSOR SUPPLY
Type PB / PX – Terminal 3: limited sensor supply
With Type PB or PX, only a limited sensor power supply is available. The supply at terminal 3 is
fixed to 1.2V DC for coil type sensors and 3.2V DC for all other types of sensors (set by firmware).
Limited power
With Type PB, PC or PX this terminal MAY NOT be used to power the flowmeter electronics,
converters, etc. as it will not provide adequate sustained power! All energy used by the sensor will
directly influence battery life (Type PB/PC). It is strongly advised to use a “zero power” pickup such
as a coil or reed-switch when operating without external power. You can use some low power NPN
or PNP output signals, but battery life will be significantly reduced (consult your distributor).
Type PD – Terminal 6: sensor supply 8.2V
With Type PD, a power supply (8.2V, max. 5mA) for the sensor is available at terminal 6.
Please note that the limited sensor supply at terminal 3 is maintained with Type PD.
Type PF/PM – Terminal 7: sensor supply 8.2 V, 12 V or 24 V.
Type PM: HIGH VOLTAGE 400V
Be sure that all the leads to the terminals are disconnected from the F012-P when the internal
plastic protection cover has been removed.
Additional to the limited sensor supply on terminal 3 as described above, types PF and PM offer a
full power supply for the sensor of 8.2V, 12V or 24V DC (max. 400mA@24V). The voltage is
selected with the three switches inside the F012-P.
To gain access to the switches, first remove the terminal strip(s) after which the internal plastic cover
can be removed. The switches are located on the right hand side as indicated.
