7.3 TERMINAL CONNECTORS HAZARDOUS AREA APPLICATIONS
The following terminal connectors are available on the intrinsically safe F012-P Type XI.

Optional battery – Type PC
With Type PC your product is equipped with an intrinsically safe, certified long-life Lithium primary
battery. The battery will power the F012 when external power is not available, and may be
exchanged in hazardous areas. For further information please see Section 8.3: Battery
replacement[»45].
7.3.1 POWER SUPPLY
The F012-P can be powered from an external power supply. For Types PX or PD, an optional
internal power supply is also available in the form of an intrinsically safe lithium primary battery
(Type PC). When both external and internal power supplies are available, the internal power supply
is interrupted and will serve as a backup supply. Note that the optional backlight (Type ZB) requires
an external power supply.
Type PX (8-30V DC) or PD (16-30 V DC)
All F012‘s are supplied with two terminals to power the product externally. With Type PX, a supply of
0.3W is required. Type PD offers an additional power output to supply the flowmeter and requires
1W.
Type PC - battery
Additional to the Types described above, Type PC offers an internal intrinsically safe lithium primary
battery, which powers the F-Series when no external supply is available.
This ATEX / IECEx certified battery (FW-LiBAT) may be replaced in hazardous area, but only with a
new certified intrinsically safe FW-LiBAT battery (Section 8.3: Battery replacement[»45]).
7.3.2 SENSOR SUPPLY
For type PC / PX – Terminal 3: limited sensor supply
Products with Type PC or PX only offer a limited sensor supply. The sensor supply at terminal 3 is
fixed to 1.2V DC for coil type inputs and 3.2V DC for all other types of flowmeter inputs (set by
firmware).
Limited power
With Type PB, PC or PX this terminal MAY NOT be used to power the flowmeter electronics,
converters, etc. as it will not provide adequate sustained power! All energy used by the sensor will
directly influence battery life (Type PB/PC). It is strongly advised to use a “zero power” pickup such
as a coil or reed-switch when operating without external power. You can use some low power NPN
or PNP output signals, but battery life will be significantly reduced (consult your distributor).
Type PD – Terminal 6: sensor supply 8.2V
With Type PD, a power supply (8.2V, max. 5mA) for the sensor is available at terminal 6.
Please note that the limited sensor supply at terminal 3 is maintained with Type PD.
