wise there is the risk of the front wheel
slipping out to the side and causing a
fall.
Take regular breaks during long
downhill sections to give the brakes suf

cient
time to cool down. Do not touch
the brakes for at least 30 minutes after
riding as they can become very hot.
Almost all modern brakes provide con-
siderably more braking power than was
available
for bicycles in the past. Care-
fully familiarise yourself with the brakes,
practising using them and practise
emergency braking, starting on safe

Only use original replacement parts.
Otherwise it is possible that the func
-
tionality of your FLYER E-bike may be
impacted or damaged.
Adjust the brake lever to ensure that it
does
not touch the handlebars when
pulled hard.
Backpedalbrakes
If your FLYER is equipped with back pedal
brakes, brake by pushing the pedals backwards
instead of forwards. This means that your bicycle
will not freewheel and you are unable to rotate the
pedals backwards freely as you otherwise can.
Back pedal brakes work best when both
cranks are in a horizontal position. If one
crank is pointing up and the other one
down, less force can be applied and

Theeectivenessofbackpedalbrakes
can deteriorate substantially on long in-
clines. This type of braking system can
become very hot from continuous brak-
ing. You should also use the rim brakes
to slow down on long inclines. W
ait until
the back pedal brake has cooled down
and do not touch the brake drum.

Tensioningandaligningthedrivebelt
Adjusting the tension and alignment of
thebeltrequiresagreatdealofexperi-
ence. Improper handling can cause acci-
dents and severe falls. Always let your
FL
YER specialist retailer perform this
activity.
If the tension of the drive belt is too low,
this can cause it to slip on the toothed
pulley. This may result in accidents or
severe falls.
16. Brake
Brakes are vital to your safety on the bi-
cycle. Have the setting and maintenance
work performed by your FL
YER special-
ist retailer. Only original spare parts may
be used. Otherwise it is possible that the
functionality of your FL
YER E-bike may

tions of the brake system are permitted.
Thebraking eect of modern brakes is
very strong. You must get used to the
braking performance of the new brakes.
Activate the brake carefully. You should
practise emergency braking in a safe,
trac-free area so that you can safely
handle your FLYER even during very in
-
tense braking manoeuvres.
Brake discs can become very hot. Do
not touch the brakes immediately after
braking (risk of burns to skin).
Do not brake continuously or too hard on
long downhill section, as your brakes
might overheat leading to reduced brak-
ing power. Alternate between applying
the front and back brake on long and
steep downhill
sections to allow the oth-
er brake to cool. It is preferable to brake
sharply for a shorter time when taking
bends or if you are riding too fast.
This
allows the brakes to cool down in the
meantime. This preserves your braking
power.Theonly exceptionisifyouare
