Chapter 1 - Introduction
1.3 System Physical Description
The system components are shown in Figures 1-1 and 1-2 and listed in Table 1-1. The system
interconnect cables are shown in Figure 1-3 and listed in Table 1-2. The accessories that can be used
with the system are shown in Figure 1-4 and listed in Table 1-3.
1.3.1 8500C/C+ Balancer/Analyzer (Figure 1-1)
The 8500C/C+ consists of a balancer/analyzer assembly combined into one unit with a printer/disk
drive assembly.
1.3.1.1 Balancer/Analyzer Assembly
The balancer/analyzer assembly acquires, displays, and processes vibration data for fault analysis and
balance correction. The front panel includes liquid crystal display (LCD) with associated push buttons.
The LCD displays the operating program, instructs the user in gathering step-by-step vibration
measurements, and displays calculated results. The push buttons are used to enter data and commands,
including operating the printer/disk drive assembly. One external connector provides 28 VDC input
power and vibration inputs from an interconnect cable. The other external connector connects to the
Strobex.
The balancer/analyzer assembly consists of the following items:
• Digital board:
Contains a microprocessor, which houses and runs the operating program,
processes the input data from disk information and aircraft vibration signals, and performs all
necessary calculations.
• Analog board:
Converts analog input signals to digital signals for processing by the digital
board.
• EL/heater control board:
Provides backlighting power for the display and heater power during
low outside temperature conditions.
• Graphics module:
Converts digital data to alphanumeric characters for display on the front
panel.
• Harness assembly:
Interconnects printed circuit boards and graphics module.
1.3.1.2 Printer/Disk Drive Assembly
The printer/disk drive assembly loads, stores, and prints vibration and related data. A disk drive
opening is located on the front panel and a paper feed slot is located on the rear panel. The disk drive is
used to upload to the balancer/analyzer software (“charts”) for the specific aircraft tests, and to
download acquired data. The vibration data balance solutions are printed on 4-3/8 inch wide thermal
paper.
