1.3. General Safety Instructions
The following instructions are important for a safe and secure operation and commissioning
of the E-Mon® energy meters. Since the meter operation involves high voltage, utmost
precautions must be taken during all stages of interacting with the meter. With most of the
readings available on the mobile application or monitoring screen, it is advised to avoid
touching the meter body except front panel.
• Use the unit only when it is in a technically tested and functional condition. Use for
intended applications only. Ensure functionality of safety components before
installation.
• Please be aware of safety and risk measures, read the relevant documents before
commissioning & Installation.
• Disconnect and/or replace all the worn-out/damaged units before installation for
electrical Safety Reasons.
• Contact the manufacturer in case of malfunction, kindly avoid handling the device in
absence of trained personnel.
• Connect the unit only to permissible electric power supply lines. Kindly refer
Installation Guide for more details.
• The safety of the system into which the unit will be integrated is the responsibility of
the trained personnel.
• External current sensors (CS’s) are not included in the evaluation. The CS shall be UL
Listed or XOBA, and UL Listed PICQ CT’s if installed in the same enclosure as the
meter.
• These meters have been tested for use with external connecting copper conductors
only.
• Only trained personnel are permitted to perform installation and service work.
• Please note that this description is general and cannot delve into the specific
functions of each unit. For the characteristics of your unit, please refer to the technical
information and catalog.
• Make provisions for disconnecting the meter from other network components prior to
installation.
• Install the isolating mechanism at an easily reachable spot marked as disconnecting
measure for the device.
• The accuracy of the measurement function is investigated under ANSI C12.20
standards.
