server
A device
that
is configured
to provide a service
to
other devices
on network, such as shared access to
a file system or printer. The logic
analyzer acts like a server on your
network.
system
administrator A person
who manages systems and machines
on a network. The system adminis-
trator is responsible for installing
software
and
hardware on the net-
work
and
assigning addresses and
names
to
machines.
TCP/IP (Transmission Control Pro-
tocol/Internet Protocol) A set of
standards for communications be-
tween computers
and
between
networks.
telnet
A protocol
that
allows users
to create a session
to
run
programs
on or transfer information to and
from a remote computer.
time
out
A period of system inac-
tivity during which
the
system awaits
user
or
network response.
If
there is
no response by
the
end
of the pe-
riod,
the
system takes an action.
In
the
benchtop logic analyzers,
the
file
timeout is
set
in
the
LAN
Settings
menu
under
the System
110
menu.

X Window
System
An open sys-
tem
technology
that
uses a windows
environment
and
makes possible
the
distribution of graphical applications
across networks. X is a network
graphics protocol which is hardware
independent, operating system inde-
pendent, network transparent,
portable and extensible.
