Unpacking IBM Storage Scale System 6000 (IBM SSR task)
Before you unpack IBM Storage Scale System 6000, ensure that you have reviewed and followed all the
related instructions.
The IBM Storage Scale System 6000 system and related parts are shipped preinstalled in the enclosures.
The following list details the components that come preinstalled in the system:
• Two 2U server canisters with memory feature codes
• Four PSUs (80 Plus Titanium)
• Six 4U fan modules
• 24 or 48 drives
• Network adapters (depends on the order)
• Interface cables for network adapters (if ordered)
• Rail kit
• Left and right bezel ear caps
• Two cable management assemblies (CMAs)
Note: You might need a box knife to unpack the IBM Storage Scale System 6000 system.
CAUTION: To lift an assembled enclosure, it is necessary to use a mechanical lift or involve four
people. If the enclosure is unpacked and dismantled, it is necessary to involve two people to lift
the enclosure.
Perform the following steps to unpack the IBM Storage Scale System 6000 system:
1. Cut the box tape and open the lid of the shipping carton.
2. Remove the rail kit box and set them aside in a safe location.
3. Remove the cable management assembly kit box and set them aside in a safe location.
4. Lift the front and rear foam packing pieces from the carton.
5. Remove the four corner reinforcement pieces from the carton.
6. Using the box knife, carefully cut the four corners of the carton from top to bottom.
7. Fold the sides and back of the carton down to uncover the rear of the IBM Storage Scale System 6000
system.
If necessary, carefully cut along the lower fold line of the sides and remove them.
8. Carefully cut the raised section of the foam packing away from the rear of the enclosure.
9. Carefully cut open the bag covering the rear of the enclosure.
10. To take the system out of the shipping carton, align the lift plate of the mechanical lift with the rear of
the enclosure and slide the enclosure onto the lift.
Installing support rails for the IBM Storage Scale System 6000 (IBM SSR
task)
Before you install the IBM Storage Scale System 6000 system, you must rst install the support rails for it.
To install the support rails for the IBM Storage Scale System 6000 system, you must rst prepare the rails
for installation by completing steps 1 and 2; then, complete steps 3-5 to install the outer rail assemblies
into the rack.
1. Prepare both the left and right rails for installation by following the next substeps:
a) Pull out the inner rail until it is fully extended. See
