Entering an Optional Patient ID (PID) and/or an Operator ID (OID)

A Patient ID (PID) and/or an Operator ID (OID) can be entered for each test. The IDs will be stored with the test

results. Entry of a PID and/or OID is optional unless a mandatory entry is specified (see the Configuration

Manager section on page 56).

The PID and OID can either be read from a barcode label using the internal barcode scanner or can be entered

using the keypad (unless entry of PID and OID by barcode scanning is specified in Configuration Manager).

Any leading or trailing spaces will be ignored when scanned.

Note: Any PID or OID that is manually entered or accepted for Reuse will be flagged as a

manual entry in the database. Backspace and overwrite characters as needed, or backspace to

the first entry and then backspace twice to clear all entries.

To Enter a Patient ID:

1. Select ID to display the ID SELECTS menu:

Note: A cuvette must be inserted into the instrument to display the ID SELECTS menu.

2. Press 1 to display the screen for entering the PID:

Note: An acceptable PID is any combination of 1 to 20 characters. During PID entry, a PID

exceeding 16 characters will wrap to the next line. The number of characters to be entered for

PID (from 1 to 20) may be designated via Configuration Manager. An acceptable range of PID

lengths may also be designated. Check the PID by pressing ID and then pressing 1 to display the

entered value.

3. Scan the PID from a barcode label using the internal barcode scanner, or enter it using the numeric

keys.

a. To scan the PID from a barcode label, position the scanner port approximately four inches

from the barcode label (see page 5) and then press PRINT/SCAN. The scanned PID and a

Stored confirmation message are displayed:

b. To enter the PID manually, type the PID using the keypad and then press and hold ENTER. The

entered PID and a Stored confirmation message are briefly displayed as shown above.

Note: Numeric and/or alphabetic characters can be entered. Press the NOTE key to change

from numeric to alphabetic characters or vice versa.

If alphabetic characters are being entered, advance from the displayed letter to the next

letter on that key by pressing the key again before the cursor advances.

Note: The PID can be designated (or changed) anytime. Check the PID by pressing ID and

then pressing 1 to display the entered value.
