Section 5 RBA-40C™ Banknote Acceptor Preventive Maintenance
This section provides the preventive maintenance
for the RBA-40C™ Banknote Acceptor (RBA-
40C). It includes the following information:
Clearing a Banknote Jam
Opening the Centering Mechanism
Cleaning Procedures
Clearing a Banknote Jam
To retrieve a jammed Banknote located inside the
Banknote Acceptor, proceed as follows:
1. Press on to the Upper Guide Open/Close Button
(Figure 6 a) located on both sides of the RBA-
40C Unit to open the Upper Guide (Figure 6 b).
2. Remove the jammed Banknote (Figure 6 c).
Opening the Centering Mechanism
If a Banknote jam occurs in the Banknote Acceptor
when the Centering Mechanism is closed, the
Upper Guide will not open. To release (open) the
Upper Guide, power cycle the Unit and allow it to
reset.
Cleaning Procedures
To clean the RBA-40C Unit, gently rub the Sen-
sors, Rollers or Belts using a dry, soft,
lint-free, Micro-fiber Cloth ONLY.
1. Remove electrical power.
2. Press on to the Upper Guide Open/Close Button
to open the Upper Guide.
3. Clean the appropriate path and Lens of each Sen-
sor, Roller and Belt. (Refer to “RBA-40C Sen-
sors and Cleaning Locations” on page 13 for each
Sensor and Roller that requires cleaning).
5 PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE

NOTE: If power cycling fails to clear the
Banknote jam, use a 5.5mm nut driver to
rotate the Centering Guide Open Shaft, then
open the Upper Guide and remove the
Banknote from the RBA-40C unit (Figure 7).

To keep the RBA-40C Unit’s
performance optimal, perform routine
cleaning and maintenance;
At least once a month; and/or
Whenever Sensors, Rollers, Belts or
Banknote Path are dirty due to dust, foreign
objects or similar debris adhering to them.
Caution: Do not use alcohol, thinner or
citrus based products for cleaning any
Sensors or surfaces. The lenses can
become clouded by chemical
evaporation residue that may cause
acceptance errors.
Caution: Do not inject water or liquid
agents of any kind into the Acceptor, as
this may cause extreme damage to the
Unit.
Caution: Be sure to use non-flammable
compressed air only.
