18.3 Changing the engine oil and oil filter, cleaning the oil screens
Warning
Danger of scalding Engine oil and gear oil get very hot when the motorcycle is ridden.
– Wear appropriate protective clothing and safety gloves. In case of burns, rinse immediately with lukewarm water.

Environmental hazard Hazardous substances cause environmental damage.
– Oil, grease, filters, fuel, cleaners, brake fluid, etc., should be disposed of as stipulated in applicable regulations.
Info
Drain the engine oil only when the engine is warm.
Preparatory work
(All EXC models)
– Remove the engine guard. ( p. 78)
– Park the motorcycle on a level surface.

Main work
– Place a suitable container under the engine.

Remove oil drain plug

with the magnet and seal ring.

Remove screw plug

with the gear oil screen and the O-rings.

Remove screw plug

with engine oil screen

and the O-rings.
– Completely drain the engine oil.
– Thoroughly clean the parts and sealing surfaces.

Mount and tighten screw plug

with the gear oil screen and the O-rings.
