MAINTENANCE WORK ON CHASSIS AND ENGINE 42
– Move the handlebar to and fro over the entire steering range.
The handlebar must be able to move easily over the entire steering range. No
resting locations should be noticeable.
» If click positions are noticeable:

Adjust play of the steering head bearing. x ( p. 42)
– Check the steering head bearing and replace if required.
– Remove the motorcycle from the work stand. ( p. 34)

– Loosen screw . Remove screw .
– Loosen and retighten screw .
Guideline
Screw, top steering head M20x1.5 10 Nm (7.4 lbf ft)
– Using a plastic hammer, tap lightly on the upper triple clamp to avoid strains.
– Fully tighten screw .

Screw, top triple clamp M8 17 Nm

– Mount and tighten screw .

9.25Removing the fork legs

Remove the front wheel. x ( p. 60)

– Remove screws and take off clamp.
– Remove cable clip , remove screw and take off the brake caliper.
– Hang the brake caliper and the brake line loosely to the side.

– Loosen screw . Remove the fork leg on the left.
– Loosen screw . Remove the fork leg on the right.
