Transducer Focus Calibration
There are two acoustic transducer calibration tools:
l Focus calibration measures the focal length of the acoustic transducer and compares it to the previous measurement. If the
difference between these measurements is minimal, then the system updates its calibration database with the new focal
length and the procedure is finished. If the difference is larger than a preset threshold, users should call Labcyte support to
ensure the system is running properly before accepting the focal length new value.
l Focal-Sweep is a diagnostic tool used by Labcyte personnel to measure the focal length of the acoustic transducer during
a predefined vertical movement.
Focus Calibration
The Echo acoustic transducer includes a lens that focuses acoustic energy pulses for purposes of droplet ejection and well
auditing. The focal length of the transducer lens is expected to slightly drift over the life of an instrument. This drift must be
compensated for to ensure consistent focus position along the transducer Z-axis during well auditing and droplet ejection.
Incorrect focus position during well auditing may result in a biased measurement of fluid impedance, or fluid concentration.
Incorrect focus position during droplet ejection may also result in slower drops with less ideal placement.
