Powering Down the Chiller
To power down the chiller, toggle the power switch to the O position. Wait a minimum of 3 seconds before turning the power back
on.
Note: If the chiller will remain powered down for an extended period of time, drain the fluid from the interior.
Store the chiller with the power cord and fluid lines disconnected.
Chiller Maintenance
It is recommended to inspect the chiller periodically to ensure there are no leaks.
It is also recommended to periodically inspect the air inlet/outlet and cooling fins to make sure they are no obstructed by dust.
Remove an accumulated dust using a vacuum cleaner.
Note: Do not use liquid cleaners in these areas.
Chiller Troubleshooting
The SMC chiller utilizes a stainless steel thermoelectric (Peltier) heat exchanger to regulate coupling fluid temperature. If the
coupling fluid temperature at the Echo Liquid Handler is poorly controlled, and there are no errors at the chiller, check for any flow
obstructions, such as a kink in the tubing or a blocked filter.
In case a power cord replacement is required, order the correct Echo Liquid Handler power cord for your region since the chiller
power cord is the same as the Echo Liquid Handler power cord.
In cases where a chiller error occurs, the chiller control panel displays an error code. See the table below for details on error
codes, descriptions, and corresponding user actions.
Error Code Description User Action
WRN Temperature Limit Warning
Check that the heat load from the Echo Liquid Handler is normal and
ambient temperatures are in specified range.
ERR01 System Error
Toggle the chiller power using the switch on the front panel. If the unit
does not recover, contact Labcyte service personnel.
ERR02 System Error
Toggle the chiller power using the switch on the front panel. If the unit
does not recover, contact Labcyte service personnel.
ERR03 System Error
Toggle the chiller power using the switch on the front panel. If the unit
does not recover, contact Labcyte service personnel.
ERR11 DCPower Supply Failure
Check the input voltage to the chiller.
Check for obstruction of the cooling fan (visible through the air inlet).
ERR12
Internal overheat temperature sensor
has tripped
Check that the ambient conditions are in range and there is good
airflow around the chiller.
ERR13
Internal low temperature sensor has
tripped
Check that the ambient conditions are in range and there is good
airflow around the chiller.
ERR14 ThermostatAlarm Contact Labcyte service personnel.
ERR15 Thermal Overload
This can occur even if the warning limits are not reached when the
chiller cannot change the temperature to the setpoint at 100%
heating/cooling output.
Check that the heat load from the Echo Liquid Handler is normal and
ambient temperatures are in specified range.
For additional information on the SMC chiller maintenance procedures, refer to the SMC chiller manual.
