Thevacantbaysareeithercoveredbymetalprotectiveshieldsoroccupiedbydummystorage-drivetrays.
Whenyouinstallaneasy-swapstoragedrive,savetheremoveddummystorage-drivetrayfromthedrivebay
incasethatyoulaterremovetheeasy-swapstoragedriveandneedthedummytraytocovertheplace.
Attention:AnunoccupieddrivebaywithoutanyotherprotectionmightimpacttheEMIintegrityandcooling
oftheserver,whichmightresultinoverheatingorcomponentdamage.TomaintaintheEMIintegrityand
coolingoftheserver,installaneweasy-swapdriveassoonasyouremovethefailingoneorthedummytray.

Toinstallorreplaceaneasy-swapdrive,dothefollowing:
1.Readthefollowingstoragedriveinstallationrules:
•Followtheorderofthestoragedrivebayswheninstallingastoragedrive.See“Frontviewofthe
server”onpage17
tolocatethestoragedrivebaysinyourserver.
•ForRAIDconfiguration,thestoragedrivesmustbethesametypewiththesamecapacityiftheyare
withinasingleRAIDarray.Formoreinformation,see“ConfiguringRAID”onpage65.
2.Removeallexternalmediafromthedrivesandturnoffallattacheddevicesandtheserver.Then,
disconnectallpowercordsfromelectricaloutletsanddisconnectallcablesthatareconnectedto
theserver.
3.Openthefrontdoor(ifavailable).
4.Locatetheappropriatestorage-drivebay.See“Frontviewoftheserver”onpage17.
